Why We Should Go To Church
To glorify and praise God for His goodness to us.
“Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people and praise him in the assembly of the elders.” Psalm 107:32
To hear the Word of God preached for the growth of our faith.
“So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
Our God desires this for us; in fact He commands it.
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another: and so much the more as you see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25
To have fellowship and encouragement from other believers and their children.
“For where two or three are gathered together (to worship) in my name, there I am in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20
The Apostle’s Creed: “I believe in – the Communion of the saints.”
It helps Christians be obedient to God.
“Remember the Sabbath Day (the Lord’s Day) to keep it holy.” Exodus 20:8
As we keep one day out of seven set apart for the Lord to worship, rest and hear the Word of God preached, we are also enabled to keep the other commandments as well. When we do not keep the Lord’s Day “set apart” other things receive our love, devotion and attention and become our gods.
It helps us to learn and put on the “new” and put off the “old”.
“To be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God, in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:23-24
We would follow Jesus Christ’s example when He was on earth.
“And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue (the place of worship) on the Sabbath day.” Luke 4:16
It keeps before us the hope of looking forward to membership in the Church Triumphant in heaven.
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14:2
The sanctifying process only occurs in us as we are taught the Word of God.
“Sanctify them by the truth; your Word is the truth.” John 17: 17
